Orkney Matters Two - creative collaborations

  • Pier Arts Centre 28 - 36 Victoria St Stromness, Orkney Islands KW16 3AA United Kingdom (map)

Men’s Shed

The Pier Arts Centre has been delivering a series of creative workshops throughout Orkney as part of the Orkney Islands Council Orkney Matters Two consultation project. The sessions have been designed to gain views from across the community, especially from those whose voices are often less heard. Those taking part include contributions from The Youth Café, Men’s Shed, Women’s Aid Children and Young People’s programme, the ACF Cadets, Lifestyles Suite, Moti Collective, Stromness Awards Groups, Pride Tribe, Blide Craft group, Papdale parents, VAO Connect and pupils across a number of Orkney’s schools.

This exhibition includes the creative responses resulting from the workshops.

Working with artists Megumi Barrington, Amy Beeston, Katherine Diaper and Soulisquoy Printmakers, those taking part considered and discussed the following talking points, which are at the heart of the wider Orkney Matters consultation.

What things do you like about where you live/What are the opportunities?

What are the barriers? What could be better?

How might you make it better?

In addition to providing written responses, participants were also encouraged to make a visual response, resulting in the works that form this exhibition.
