Through community arts engagement, textiles, performance, photography and video work, Morey is researching textile labour from an ecological perspective – the labour of women and girls interdependent with the labour of the earth.
These labour-ecologies take place outside on the land, in the soil, in households, and other community settings. Although the products and processes developed through these interdependencies contribute to local economies, the extent of the contributions remain undervalued as “hobbies” or at best unpaid or underpaid contributions.
Connie Michele Morey’s qualifications include a BFA in Visual Arts from the University of Lethbridge, an M.Ed. in Art Education and a Studio-Based PhD from the University of Victoria.
She currently lives in and works on unceded traditional Lekwungen Territories, in Victoria, Canada, where she also teaches Sculpture and Art Theory at Camosun College.
