We are reopening our galleries for visitors to enjoy our outstanding collection of 20th and 21st Century modernist artworks.

Colour is a core theme that underpins the collection, it is evident in the works of Margaret Gardiner’s founding gift and is an essential aspect of the contemporary additions that have been made in recent years.

To compliment the artworks, we have refreshed our popular children’s comments. We invited all pupils at Stromness Primary School to visit the gallery and give their responses. Some observations are insightful and thoughtful, others fun and whacky, but all display and contain the uninhibited and imaginative joy that visual art inspires in the young – and the not so young.
