Voice and Vision; the Poetry and Art of W.S. Graham

  • The Pier Arts Centre 28 Victoria Street Stromness KW16 3AA (map)

This year marks the centenary of W.S. Graham's birth. Now renowned as one of the great Scottish poets, he was also a key figure for British post-war art. As well as poems he produced visual and mixed-media works, and yet these have never been exhibited before.

This exhibition includes illuminated manuscripts, decorative letters, watercolours and oils, to show the breadth and diversity of Graham's creativity, placing them alongside work from some of the artists close to him: including Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Barbara Hepworth, Roger Hilton, Peter Lanyon and Ben Nicholson, from the Pier Arts Centre Collection, as well as works by Alan Lowndes, and Sven Berlin.

Voice and Vision; the Poetry and Art of W.S. Graham is curated by David Nowell Smith of the University of East Anglia, in association with the Pier Arts Centre.
