Ian MacInnes (1922-2003)
The streets and harbour of Stromness, along with the shores and cliffs of the Western fringes of Orkney, were the favoured subjects of the Stromness artist Ian MacInnes, who was born 100 years ago this year.
From early childhood Ian displayed an exceptional talent for drawing and painting and study at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen followed a period of active service in World War II. Gritty paintings of fellow servicemen highlight the artists growing skill in depicting the world around him and this exhibition includes some the artists earliest portraits, alongside paintings, drawings and illustrations from throughout his long career.
