As part of the Pier Arts Centre’s Culture Collective Round 2 programme, artists Emma Ainsley and John Phillips have worked co-creatively with people using services at the Kalisgarth Centre, Westray and the Glaitness Centre, Kirkwall. Using an improvisatory ‘jamming’ approach, two new pieces of work have been co-created – Along the Shore, a video with sound from Kalisgarth and Happy Places, an interactive installation from the Glaitness Centre. .
During the sessions people were offered as many different ways to join-in as possible - including high tech approaches using digital sound, music and visuals and more low-tech approaches including drawing, collage, dancing, playing acoustic instruments, singing and vocalisations.
Emma and John will be in attendance throughout the display and will lead two workshops in relation to their creative practice for full details click here >
Culture Collective is a Scotland-wide programme (2021-2023), supported by Creative Scotland to establish a network of creative practitioners, organisations and communities working together to create a positive difference in response to COVID-19. Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides worked together as an ‘island group’ to share their experiences and contribute to their communities.
