This film programme showcases new work by artists and filmmakers currently undertaking practice-based PhDs at Scottish universities, including films by Sarah Forrest (Glasgow School of Art, co-supervised with University of Glasgow), Shona Main (University of Stirling, co-supervised with Glasgow School of Art), Susannah Ramsay (University of Stirling, co-supervised with Glasgow School of Art), and Roseanne Watt (University of Stirling). All of the films included in the programme were filmed on Scottish islands and represent a range of different experimental approaches to filmmaking, including documentary, film poetry, and narrative driven works.
The artists and filmmakers included in this programme are recipients of doctoral funding from the Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities, a collaboration of eight prestigious Scottish Universities alongside Scotland's specialist institutions The Glasgow School of Art and The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, offering fully-funded PhDs with stipend.
Dr Susannah Thomson, head of postgraduate studies at Glasgow School of Art will join Dr Sarah Neely, author of Between Categories: The Films of Margaret Tait, for a Q&A after the film screenings.
