Walking Workshop led by artist Laura Drever meeting at the Pier Arts Centre

A guided walk from the Pier Arts Centre along to the Point of Ness and around the coast.

During this workshop you will learn how to gather information from the landscape. We will think about the weather, the unique qualities of Orkney light and the many and varied movements that occur with the environment. Sketch books will be used to gather information and take notes. Laura will guide participants on drawing techniques throughout. The outcome will be a selection of drawings/sketches and an insight into Laura’s walking practice.

Drawing activities will include:

• Rubbings – texture gathering

• Ink – water movement

• Water colour – finding and mixing colour

• Pencil drawing – continuous line.

The walking route is predominately on the flat, however participants should wear appropriate walking footwear and have suitable clothing ie a warm layer, waterproofs and head protection in case of sunshine!

• a camera - phone camera is fine

• a snack and warm drink
