This display has developed through the Pier Arts Centre’s study group, an informal forum which provides an opportunity for extended and expanded discussion. In addition, the sessions provide a platform for discovery and, in this case, time to actively think about how curating a body of work can start new conversations and dialogues.
The group elected to show four works on loan from a private collection alongside selected works from the permanent collection and to create a series of pairings or couplings between the works to achieve both balance and meaning.
The exhibition includes work by Roger Hilton, Rose Hilton, Margaret Mellis and Yayoi Kusama to name a few.
