The Pier Arts Centre is looking for young people aged 13 to 18 who are keen to participate in a three session workshop in collaboration with Glasgow School of Art Tuesday 11 to Thursday 13 June, from 6-9pm.

Entitled Future Heritage: Exploring young people’s connection to local heritage, the workshops will take the form of a zoetrope pop-up studio. The workshops will be led by Marianne McAra, who is a design researcher at The Innovation School at Glasgow School of Art. She is engaged in an AHRC funded research project that focusses on future heritage and inspiring youth cultural advocacy in the Highlands and Islands.

The aim of the project is to make a series of short zoetrope animations that share participants’ insights and perceptions relating to local heritage. Zoetropes are one of the earliest forms of animation invented around 200 years ago.

A key aim of the project is give a voice and ownership to young people through creativity and collaboration and to explore what heritage might look like in years to come.
