Camilla Low sculpture donated by the Contemporary Art Society

A talk by a leading expert on developing collections of contemporary art.  The free illustrated lecture will be delivered by Helen Nisbet of the Contemporary Art Society and will look at how the Society has supported public collections of art across the UK and will focus, in particular, on the Pier Arts Centre’s own growing collection of art.

Helen Nisbet is an art consultant at the Contemporary Art Society where she curates and manages large scale public art works, temporary projects and private art collections for the organisation. Helen is originally from Shetland (she organises a series of Shetland Nights in London) and her mother is from Westray so she regularly travels back to Orkney to see family.

This event is part of a series of Contemporary Art Society lectures supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, a year-long programme of talks that take place in the Contemporary Art Society’s Member Museums across the UK. The talks relate to works gifted to the museum collection and are designed to introduce the work of the Contemporary Art Society and contemporary art collections to new audiences.

Founded in 1910, the Contemporary Art Society exists to encourage an appreciation and understanding of contemporary art and to donate works to museums and public galleries across the UK.
