Where I Am is a generative touring project, which explores a deep history of artists’ moving image in Scotland over the past 100 years.

Taking its title from Margaret Tait’s experimental film work Where I Am Is Here (1964), the project showcases the rich tradition of artists’ filmmaking in Scotland, and begins a conversation with audiences, venues and artists about what might constitute a distinctly Scottish tradition in both a national and international context.

The Pier Arts Centre will present a programme of films and events by three artists who have all received recognition through the Glasgow Film Festival/LUX Margaret Tait Award and Residency.  Torsten Lauschmann was the first recipient of the Award in 2010 and Charlotte Prodger picked up the honour in 2015.  Florrie James spent time filming in Orkney in 2014 as part of the second Glasgow Film Festival/LUX Margaret Tait Residency. The aims of the Margaret Tait Award and Residency are to support experimental and innovative artists working within film and moving image, providing a high profile platform for them to exhibit their work and engage with a wider audience. The Margaret Tait Award & Residency are presented by Glasgow film festival in conjunction with Creative Scotland and LUX.

Where I Am screenings and events at the Pier Arts Centre are admission free.

This project is supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network and is presented in association with Glasgow Film Festival and LUX Scotland.  The event is sponsored by NorthLink Ferries.
