A special performance of Reflections, a new composition by Orkney musician and composer Gemma McGregor. The piece will be performed in the gallery by the Experimental Music Project led by Gemma McGregor, alongside the painting by Orcadian artist Sylvia Wishart that inspired the music.

The Experimental Music Project is a new group featuring different multi-discipline artists which will present bi-monthly performances. For the concert at the Pier Arts Centre the group will include Gemma McGregor on piano, Dave Linklater on accordion, David Griffith on clarinet, Linda Hamilton on cello and Gillian Morrison on double bass.

Gemma McGregor wrote Reflections in 2014 after spending time thinking about why Sylvia Wishart kept painting the same images in so many of her paintings. Musical reactions to her images of sea, birds, Hoy, the wheel of life, the white flowers and musical symbols keep returning reframed in new contexts like the frames within frames within the artist’s paintings as the music ebbs and flows like the tide marking days of gazing out of that window at Heatherybraes.

The event is free of charge and no booking is required.
